1961 Ford Thunderbird
SOLD
1961 Ford Thunderbird Convertible. Tucson AZ car in need of restoration, but drives well as is. Body has had one repaint to white from the original Cambridge Blue Metallic. Very solid and straight car overall. Original rockers, floor, and trunk. There are some rust bubbles in front of both rear wheel wells but rockers are solid. Floor is very solid with the exception of the drivers front floor which is a little weak from pitting due to a bad windshield seal. There are a few dime sized holes and they are pictured below. Trunk is solid but there are two metal patches above where the original mufflers were. Otherwise the car is rust free. No evidence of any major body damage or repairs. Paint is weathered and needs to be redone. Interior is original and needs to be redone as well. Convertible top is currently unfunctional. The rams were disconnected so you can manually put it up and down. When you hit the switch it does make noise, but we have not looked into repairing it, it could just need fluid? Comes with a new black top in the box. Windshield and seal are less than 6mos old. All power windows work and glass is in good shape. All of the exterior trim on this car including the bumpers are completely ding free but will need refinishing for show quality. Engine code as follows : C1AE 6015 G. 390 4 bbl with cruise o matic transmission. I believe it to be the original engine, but in the books it translates to a 1961 Galaxie engine. I am not a T-bird expert. Runs and drives good, but takes a bit to warm up sometimes. Most likely needs a carb rebuild. Once it is warm it drives great. Trans shifts great but slips in reverse if you give it alot of throttle. Brakes work well and the master cylinder was recently replaced. Radiator was also cleaned out and pressure tested. I have driven the car about 40 miles and have noticed that the following items do not work: Top, clock, radio, heater motor, temp gauge, and the exterior passenger side door handle button is stuck in. (opens and closes with the interior handle) This car needs some TLC, but is an excellent candidate for restoration. Enjoy and fix as needed, or blow it apart and start a major restoration on a very desireable and well optioned Thunderbird.
